Playwrights of 2013

Here are the previous talented playwrights who showcased their work in the 2013 OC-Centric New Play Festival.

Abbe Levine
Author of "God Shaped Hole"

 

A member of Fell Swoop Playwrights, Abbe holds a BFA in Writing for Screen & Television from USC's School of Cinema and her MFA in Creative Writing & Writing for the Performing Arts from UCR. Professionally, she has optioned a screenplay called Nothing Gold to the Hallmark Channel and her plays have been produced at Hunger Artists Theatre Company, at Orange County Pavilion, by the Golden Mean Players, and on the Mainstage at UCR. She has written coverage and script notes for Lawrence Gordon Productions, the production team behind Hellboy and Watchmen. In 2011, Abbe’s play Puppets was a semi-finalist (top 10) for the prestigious Samuel Goldwyn Screenwriting Awards and an OC-centric finalist. Abbe was a Gluck Teaching Fellow in 2011 and her work has been published in ISM Magazine, dirtcakes, andOrange Coast Magazine. Abbe has taught screenwriting, playwriting, and various other creative writing courses at Orange County School of the Arts for nine years, where she is also the Assistant Director of the Creative Writing Conservatory. She has also taught through California Arts Center, Pacific Symphony, UCR, the Gluck Foundation and Cal State Long Beach's Young Writer's Program.

Julie Tosh
Author of "Skirt"

 

Julie's plays and screenplays include Skirt (Mary Marlin Fisher Playwriting Award, Second Place David Mark Cohen Playwriting Award, Finalist for Trustus Theatre Playwrights’ Festival),Refuge (adapted from the young adult novel by Jacqueline Kolosov), and Program Rose (finalist for the Alfred P. Sloan Screenwriting Award). Her plays Beauty of the Century, The Pharaoh's Revenge and The Angry Eagle Feather are published by Samuel French. She has been a two-time recipient of a Shubert Foundation Fellowship, a Virginia Center for Creative Arts Fellow, a Walter E. Dakin Playwriting Fellow at the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, an ANA Alliance Scholar, and a Core Apprentice for The Playwrights’ Center. Currently a Djerassi Resident Artist through the San Francisco Film Society, her work has been produced or developed at Dramatists Guild Los Angeles Friday Night Footlights, KCACTF, Bricolage Theatre Company, Theatre Inspirato and Carnegie Mellon University, and it has also aired on WQED (Pittsburgh) and NPR. Andrea Sloan Pink
Author of "Les Hollywood Hills"

 

Andrea's plays include the Hollywood Trilogy - Les Hollywood Hills, Warner Bros. and The Golden Age. Warner Bros. will be published in The Best American Short Plays 2011-2012(Applause Theatre & Cinema Books), coming out in August 2013. She is the editor of The Rose Metal Press Field Guide to Poetic Playwriting (to be published in September 2014), featuring essays by Obie and Pulitzer Prize winners and and MacArthur Fellows. Her poem Red Thread will be published inAssisi in spring 2013. She wrote and produced The Best and Brightest, a 26-episode televised film festival hosted by Jennifer Jason Leigh and Lorenzo Lamas. Her new play, Horse Latitudes, is forthcoming in 2013. She is currently writing a novel and working on film projects. Andrea received her MFA in screenwriting from UCLA's School of Film & Television (where she was the Ruth Brill Scholar for fiction) and her JD in intellectual property law from the UCLA School of Law.

Travis Snyder-Eaton
Author of "The Sound of Silence"

 

Travis is a Southern California native and a recent graduate from the University of La Verne where he achieved a B.A. in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in Directing. He has been a company member at Sacred Fools Theatre Company for a year-and-a-half now, and his writing has previously been seen on their stage in the late-night show Serial Killers. This play, however, marks his first venture into a full-fledged production.
